L-mandelic acid is an oil-soluble alpha hydroxy acid with a larger molecular size, allowing for slower penetration and improved tolerability compared to other AHAs.

It helps regulate desquamation, reduce follicular congestion, and improve both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne. It also supports the reduction of hyperpigmentation, including melasma and sun-related damage.

Additionally, mandelic acid has been shown to exhibit mild 5-alpha reductase inhibitory activity, which may help reduce excess sebum production in acne-prone skin.
